Job summary

A family-owned company in Schiller Park is looking for a skilled diesel mechanic to perform maintenance on trucks, heavy equipment, and vehicles. You will work independently, maintain detailed records of your work, and implement a preventative maintenance schedule. Ideal candidates should have experience with diesel engines and mechanical knowledge, and possess good communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in diesel engine and truck mechanics (1 year required).
  • Mechanical knowledge (1 year required).
  • Diesel engine repair (1 year required).

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding work performed and vehicle status.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts and a clean working environment.
  • Diagnose issues with engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.

Job Description

Availability: Flexible schedule for maintenance on trucks, equipment, and vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  1. Good communication skills (e.g., must communicate with owners/supervisors about work performed, vehicle status, and scheduling).
  2. Ability to work independently and be self-starting.
  3. Maintain detailed records of work performed and services needed.
  4. Diagnostic skills on cars, including brands like Hino, KW, Peterbilt, Freightliner, etc.
  5. Familiarity with towing and hydraulic systems is helpful.
  6. Knowledge of engines, electrical systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems (air & hydraulic).
  7. Basic MIG welding skills.
  8. Able to maintain a clean working environment.
  9. Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule.
  10. Maintain detailed records of services performed.
  11. Implement and maintain a parts inventory.

Experience:

  1. Diesel engine, truck, and heavy equipment mechanics: 1 year
  2. Diesel engine repair: 1 year
  3. Mechanical knowledge: 1 year
