Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Piedmont, SC is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. You will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks to ensure safe and reliable operations.

This role requires hands-on skills with diesel engines, hydraulics, air brakes, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools. Expect an on-site shop with a 4am start, 11-hour days, and overtime after 40 hours with a company truck.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.
• Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.
• Valid Driver’s License required (CDL preferred, or willingness to obtain).
• Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems).
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards.
• Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Pay Rate: $30-$40/hr. More pay available based on experience, certifications, and skill level.

Hours / Shift: 4am start time. Expect 11hr days. M-F. Immediate OT after 40hrs worked. Shift will be service call heavy-provided with company truck.

About the Role
