Job Type: Full-Time, On-Site

About the Role

We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Fleet Mechanic to help maintain the safety, reliability, and operating condition of a commercial vehicle fleet supporting agricultural services, grain handling, and transportation operations throughout Central Illinois.

This role is suited to a mechanic who enjoys diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and keeping vehicles ready for daily operations. The work will focus on commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, and related fleet equipment, based on the maintenance needs of the operation.

Prior hands-on diesel mechanic experience is preferred. Candidates with experience in truck maintenance, fleet service, heavy vehicles, or agricultural equipment repair are encouraged to apply if they have a solid mechanical foundation and are willing to develop their skills further.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs on commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, and other assigned fleet equipment.

  • Inspect diesel engines and associated mechanical systems to identify wear, leaks, performance issues, and potential equipment failures.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, starting, charging, cooling, fuel, and other vehicle-system issues within your area of expertise.

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair braking systems, air brakes where applicable, steering, suspension, tires, wheels, lighting, and other essential vehicle components.

  • Diagnose equipment problems, identify the cause of failures, and determine the appropriate repairs or replacement parts.

  • Carry out oil and filter changes, fluid checks, lubrication, component adjustments, and other scheduled maintenance tasks.

  • Replace worn or defective components and complete mechanical repairs using appropriate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Help ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained in safe operating condition and prepared for applicable inspections.

  • Document completed maintenance, identified defects, repairs, and parts used, and communicate additional repair needs to the appropriate personnel.

  • Coordinate with drivers and operations personnel to understand reported vehicle issues and prioritize maintenance needs that affect fleet availability.

  • Maintain an organized work area, follow established safety procedures, and use tools and equipment responsibly when working around heavy vehicles.

  • Assist with additional fleet maintenance and mechanical repair duties as operational needs require.

Key Qualifications
  • Prior hands-on diesel mechanic experience is preferred, particularly involving commercial trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, or fleet maintenance.

  • Experience repairing trucks, trailers, agricultural machinery, heavy equipment, or other diesel-powered equipment is valuable.

  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, vehicle mechanical systems, preventive maintenance, and common equipment failures.

  • Ability to inspect equipment, troubleshoot problems, identify repair needs, and complete mechanical work with appropriate guidance.

  • Familiarity with vehicle braking systems, air brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and routine service procedures is an advantage.

  • Comfortable using common mechanic's hand tools, power tools, and relevant diagnostic equipment.

  • Ability to follow repair procedures, identify potential safety issues, and maintain accurate maintenance records.

  • Dependable work habits, attention to detail, practical problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn.

  • Ability to perform hands-on maintenance work safely, including standing, bending, reaching, and handling tools and components, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • A CDL Class A or B is not required but is a plus.

  • Technical training or certification in diesel technology, automotive maintenance, or heavy equipment repair is beneficial but not essential.
