Job summary

Transdev is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to support the Ocean Township Fleet of School Buses for the local Board of Education. This full‑time opportunity offers a competitive wage and comprehensive benefits, including vacation, sick days, holidays, and ASE training credits.

Primary duties include PM inspections, repairs on defects, and diagnosing vehicles across brakes, suspensions, engines, and transmissions. DOT testing and ASE certification opportunities are included.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • At least 1 year of automotive or diesel maintenance & repair employment experience or a combination of technical school education & experience.
  • Mechanic’s toolset.
  • ASE certifications preferred. Must be willing to participate in company ASE certification program (company training, testing, and bonuses provided!).
  • Subject to DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.

Responsibilities

  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections (PM’s).
  • Complete Repairs on defects found during a PM
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repairs including but not limited to brakes, suspensions, engines, and transmissions.
  • Complete repairs on defects noted during daily vehicle inspections-pre-trip inspections (DVI’s)
  • Ensure work orders are completed accurately.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects up to XX pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
