Trillium Staffing is seeking an experienced Head Diesel Mechanic to lead and manage our shop operations in Menomonee Falls, WI. This leadership role oversees a fleet of 8 Peterbilt trucks with CAT engines and 29 trailers, ensuring uptime for time-sensitive catering logistics.

You will drive maintenance schedules, supervise technicians, and enforce DOT compliance while maintaining a safe, organized shop floor.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on heavy-duty diesel technician experience with CAT engines and Peterbilt chassis.
• Prior shop lead or head mechanic experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred; ASE or CAT certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day shop operations, schedule maintenance, and track work orders.
• Perform diagnostic, repair, and overhaul work on Peterbilt trucks with CAT engines.
• Inspect and service 29 trailers, including air brakes, lighting, hydraulics, and structural components.
• Design preventive maintenance schedules to prevent downtime during peak periods.
• Use CAT ET software and diagnostic tools to identify faults and resolve issues.
• Ensure DOT safety compliance and maintain a clean, safe shop floor.
• Record labor time, parts usage, and service history for the fleet.

Job description

Trillium is seeking an experienced Head Diesel Mechanic to lead and manage our shop operations in Menomonee Falls, WI.

This leadership role is directly responsible for maintaining, servicing, and managing a dedicated fleet consisting of 8 Peterbilt trucks with Caterpillar (CAT) engines and 29 trailers essential to our time-sensitive catering logistics operations.

Responsibilities

• Shop Leadership & Operations: Manage day-to-day shop activities, schedule maintenance, track work orders, and manage parts inventory for the fleet.
• Engine & Fleet Maintenance: Perform diagnostic, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul work on Peterbilt trucks equipped with Caterpillar engines.
• Trailer & Equipment Service: Inspect, repair, and perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on 29 trailers, including air brakes, lighting, hydraulics, structural components, and auxiliary transport systems.
• Preventive Maintenance: Design and execute routine PM schedules to prevent vehicle breakdowns and guarantee zero downtime during critical catering delivery windows.
• Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use CAT Electronic Technician (ET) software and computer-based diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical faults.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure all fleet units comply with DOT safety standards, state regulations, and food-transport cleanliness protocols. Keep a safe, clean, and organized shop floor.
• Record Keeping: Track labor time, parts usage, and detailed service records for every unit in the fleet management system.

Pay rate is $38.00 / hour. Schedule is 1st Shift | Monday – Friday (Occasional overtime during peak demand periods).

Experience & Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of hands-on heavy-duty diesel technician experience, with proven expertise in Caterpillar engines and Peterbilt chassis. Previous shop lead or head mechanic experience is strongly preferred.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of diesel engines, CAT diagnostic tools, heavy-duty transmissions, electrical diagnostics, air brakes, and trailer mechanics.
• Licensing & Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Class A CDL is highly preferred (or ability to obtain). ASE or CAT certifications are a major plus.
• Tools: Must possess a complete personal hand and power tool set appropriate for heavy-duty truck repair.
• Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs.
