Job summary

Fincantieri Marine Systems North America in Mayport, FL is seeking a Diesel Mechanic on 1st shift (Mon-Fri, 7:30AM–3:30PM). The role involves inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing marine diesel engines and related equipment to meet safety and quality standards.

Ideal candidates have a journeyman/technical/associate degree in diesel mechanics and at least 3 years of marine or industrial experience, with the ability to obtain DBIDS, driver’s license, passport, and ASE T2

Qualifications

• Journeyman/Technical/Associate degree in diesel mechanics.
• Minimum 3 years of diesel engine mechanic experience; marine ship-repair or industrial experience preferred.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain, DBIDS, valid driver’s license, passport; diesel mechanic certification, and/or ASE T2 preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine diesel engines and associated fuel, cooling, lubrication, combustion, and power transmission systems.
• Disassemble, inspect, measure, repair, and reassemble engines and mechanical components.
• Perform engine timing, valve adjustments, injector replacement, and other mechanical repairs.
• Identify wear, damage, corrosion, cracks, and deficiencies; determine repair or replacement needs.
• Maintain accurate records of measurements, repairs, and completed work.
• Other duties and overtime as assigned

Position Summary

The Diesel Engine Mechanic is responsible for conducting inspections, identifying mechanical deficiencies, and performing repairs on various commercial and defense vessels. The ideal candidate can troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and install marine engines and related mechanical equipment to restore proper equipment operation. This role requires a strong understanding of diesel mechanics and components in accordance with applicable safety, quality, and customer requirements.

Domestic and International travel may be required

Essential Functions

• Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine diesel engines and associated fuel, cooling, lubrication, combustion, and power transmission systems.
• Disassemble, inspect, measure, repair, and reassemble engines and mechanical components.
• Perform engine timing, valve adjustments, injector replacement, and other mechanical repairs.

Requirements

Required Skills

• Must be knowledgeable in diesel engine systems, overhauls, and components (i.e. Gear train, 4 stroke diesel engine operations, combustion system
• Must be proficient in using hand/power tools, calibration/measuring instruments, diagnostic tools, and basic machinery
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and mechanical drawings
• Must have basic organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
• Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
• Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness

Education and Experience

Journeyman, Technical or Associate’s degree in diesel mechanics, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

3 Years of diesel engine mechanic experience required, marine ship-repair or industrial experience preferred

Must be able to obtain and maintain, DBIDS, valid driver’s license, passport; diesel mechanic certification, and/or ASE T2 preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear.
