Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic in Houston to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. You will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Shifts run 3pm–3am, Monday–Friday, with immediate overtime after 40 hours and potential Saturday daytime rotation. Valid driver’s license and own tools required; DOT and OSHA safety standards enforced.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.
• Own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, and air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain waste equipment such as compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lifting systems.
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure DOT and company standards compliance.
• Maintain accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Job description

Location: 7213 E Mount Houston Road Houston TX

Pay Rate: $25-$35/hr. More pay available based on experience, certifications, and skill level.

Hours / Shift: 3pm-3am M-F. Immediate OT after 40hrs worked. Have to be open to rotating Day Shift Saturdays 11am-5pm.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. In this role, you will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks (rear loaders, side loaders, front loaders, and roll-offs) to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems).
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards.
• Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.
• Tools: Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.
• License: Valid Driver's License required
• Skills: Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
