GFL Environmental is hiring a diesel mechanic to maintain our fleet of commercial trucks. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose diesel engines, and repair air brakes, electrical systems, and transmissions in a fast-paced shop.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of hands-on diesel experience, and familiarity with shop software. CDL preferred and a strong safety mindset are valued. Competitive benefits and steady schedules accompany this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; diesel tech diploma is a plus.
• At least 1 year hands-on diesel repair and fleet maintenance experience.
• Strong knowledge of diesel diagnostics, air brakes and electrical systems; computer literacy to use shop software.

Responsabilités

• Perform routine preventive maintenance, oil changes, brake inspections and tune-ups on diesel trucks.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, transmissions and emissions systems.
• Conduct safety inspections to identify issues before delays or hazards.
• Use diagnostic software, document work orders, manage parts inventory and follow safety protocols.
• Collaborate with the team to improve shop efficiency and assist with training new members.

About the Role

Every great fleet needs an even better mechanic behind the scenes! At GFL Environmental, our fleet of commercial diesel trucks keeps local communities clean, safe, and running smoothly-and you're the expert who keeps those trucks on the road.

What You'll Be Doing

• Commercial Fleet Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance, oil changes, brake inspections, and tune-ups on our commercial fleet of diesel trucks.
• Master Troubleshooter: Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, transmissions, and emission control systems.
• Preventative Safety: Conduct safety inspections to identify potential mechanical issues before they turn into road delays or safety hazards.
• Shop & System Operations: Utilize diagnostic software, maintain clean work areas, document work orders accurately, manage parts inventory, and follow lock-out/tag-out safety protocols.
• Continuous Improvement: Work alongside a skilled team to solve tough mechanical puzzles, keep shop efficiency high, and assist with training new shop team members.

What We're Looking For

• Credentials: High School Diploma or GED (vocational/technical diploma in diesel technology is a major plus!).
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of hands‑on experience in diesel engine repair and commercial fleet/truck maintenance.
• Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics, air brakes, electrical systems, and computer literacy to use shop software systems.
• Tools of the Trade: Ownership of basic mechanic hand tools (specialty tools provided in-shop).
• Physical Capability: Ability to frequently lift, push, or pull up to 100 lbs and work actively in a bustling repair shop environment.
• CDL Advantage: A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus for test‑driving fleet vehicles!
