GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Mechanic to keep our fleet rolling in the High Point, NC area.

You will diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks and other equipment, using diagnostic software and your personal toolbox to identify root causes and execute timely fixes. This full-time role requires 1 year of relevant experience, a high school diploma or GED (trade cert preferred), and a safety-conscious mindset.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or trade certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician.
  • Comfort using computer diagnostic software, maintaining digital work orders, and learning new systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose & Repair: troubleshoot and repair diesel trucks, CNG, gas and electric vehicles.
  • Master the Tech: use diagnostic software and manuals with top-tier tools to find root causes.
  • Keep Things Scheduled: plan repairs in planner, procure parts, and write up work orders.
  • Work Safe, Work Smart: keep a clean, organized workspace and follow safety regs.
  • Support the Team: train new mechanics and participate in technical seminars.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
  • Diagnose & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair operational difficulties on heavy-duty diesel trucks, CNG, gas, and electrically operated vehicles and rolling stock
  • Master the Tech: Utilize diagnostic software, repair manuals, and top-tier hand and power tools to get to the root of mechanical issues
  • Keep Things Scheduled: Plan and schedule repairs in the M5 planner, procure necessary parts, and assist with mechanical write-ups and work orders
  • Work Safe, Work Smart: Maintain a clean, organized work area and strictly adhere to federal, state/provincial, and company safety regulations
  • Support the Team: Collaborate with team members, assist in training new mechanics, and participate in technical seminars to stay ahead of industry tech
What We’re Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or trade certification strongly preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using computer diagnostic software, maintaining digital work orders, and learning new systems
  • Tools of the Trade: Must possess, provide, and maintain your own personal tool set necessary to perform heavy/hydraulic equipment maintenance
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 100 lbs, work in dynamic shop environments, and perform safety-sensitive duties
