Job summary

WM is hiring a Diesel Mechanic in Elgin, SC. You will fix trucks and equipment servicing millions of customers nationwide, using modern tools and procedures to maintain diesel and some CNG fleets. Expect a structured schedule and dependable hours.

The role requires 2 years of hands-on experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass pre-employment screening. WM offers competitive pay, a tool allowance, boot allowance, and comprehensive healthcare, plus a 401(k) match and education

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Be over 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts.
  • Perform work within our Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Safety checks on vehicles to protect employees and communities.
  • Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage and repair times.
  • Assist senior Mechanics in project work.
  • Review, complete or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.

The hours and location you’ll work in as a Diesel Mechanic with WM:
  • Tuesday – Saturday every week
  • Sunday and Monday off
  • Start at 10am-8pm

  • The normal setting for this job is a repair / maintenance shop at our Elgin, SC hauling site .

Each day you’ll fix the trucks and equipment that service over 20 million customers across the USA. As a Diesel Mechanic you can take pride in watching a truck roll out of the shop, knowing your local community will be supported by your hard work. You’ll be using modern tools and procedures to deliver exceptional maintenance on both diesel equipment and, at some locations, on our growing fleet of CNG trucks.

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.

  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
