Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company in Birmingham, AL is seeking a hands-on Heavy Equipment Operator. You will promote safety, service and repair mobile equipment, inspect and troubleshoot, and assist with operating and moving heavy machinery to keep production running smoothly.

The role requires flexibility to work outdoors in varied weather and to perform routine documentation and safety procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, ensuring accurate records, and supporting plant operations

Qualifications

  • Experience with diesel or heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Basic mechanical tool knowledge and maintenance abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety and prioritize safe operation according to MSHA and Vulcan standards.
  • Repair, adjust, and test mobile equipment to maximize performance and minimize downtime.
  • Inspect mobile equipment to identify and troubleshoot issues; perform necessary repairs.
  • Handle, install, position, and move parts and tools safely throughout shop and plant.
  • Document and maintain service reports daily and monthly for all mobile equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment to support production efficiency.
  • Perform general physical activities requiring movement of the body, arms, and legs.

Skills You’ll Need
  • Experience. Previous experience working on diesel or heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Best Practices. Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
  • Flexibility. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
  • Mechanical Skills. Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
