Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a Diesel Electrician to inspect, diagnose, and repair complex electrical systems in diesel locomotives across various models. You will perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshoot control circuits, and ensure safety and FRA compliance while supporting reliable locomotive operations.

Ideal candidates have journeyman electrical credentials or formal training, plus hands-on experience with electronics, AC/DC motors, and reading schematics.

Qualifications

• Possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate and navigate safely.
• Proficiency in keyboarding and basic mathematics for documentation and calculations.
• Background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors, or hold a journeyman electrical card.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for coworkers and supervisors.
• Ability to follow instructions, safety rules, bulletins, and regulations.
• Successfully complete an English assessment prior to interview.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled electrical inspections and circuit testing on locomotive components.
• Maintain and repair electrical components in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments following standards.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems to identify root causes of issues.
• Coordinate work activities and plan steps with equipment needs in mind.
• Use shop tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Communicate technical information to coworkers and supervisors.
• Maintain professionalism and safety compliance in all tasks.
