Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a Diesel Electrician to inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical systems in locomotives of various ages. You will perform scheduled inspections, maintain electrical components, and troubleshoot control circuits to ensure safe, reliable service for customer goods across North America.

You will work on locomotive cabs and electrical compartments, read schematics, and adhere to FRA safety guidelines while coordinating tasks and communicating with teams.

Qualifications

• Possess valid driver’s license and keyboarding ability.
• Proficiency in basic mathematics and reading electrical schematics.
• Background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors or journeyman electrical card.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and prints.
• Strong written and verbal communication; follow instructions and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled electrical inspections and circuit tests using schematics and location plans.
• Maintain and repair electrical components in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments to standards.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and diagnose root causes.
• Coordinate work activities and plan tasks with appropriate equipment.
• Communicate technical information clearly to colleagues and supervisors.
• Adhere to FRA guidelines and safety regulations.
