Job summary

THOR Solutions is seeking an experienced Diesel Lifecycle Engineering Representative (DLER) to support NSWCPD in Norfolk, VA. The role involves coordinating diesel engine maintenance, collecting performance data, and assisting with balancing across LPD 17, LSD 41/49, and LHD 8/LHA 6 class ships.

The ideal candidate will have seven+ years of U.S. Navy Engineman or similar experience with diesel propulsion, DEI/OEM certification, SAMM usage, and DEPA data collection, plus strong communication

Qualifications

  • At least seven years of U.S. Navy Engineman or related maritime experience in diesel propulsion and power generation systems.
  • Two+ years in Diesel Maintenance Strategy (DMS) and Diesel Readiness System (DRS).
  • Certification as Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) or OEM Technical Service Representative.
  • Experience with Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM).
  • Diesel engine performance analysis (DEPA) data collection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common productivity tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Represent the ISEA at project team meetings, conferences, work package reviews, and visits.

Job description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an experienced Diesel Lifecycle Engineering Representative (DLER) to support Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) in Norfolk, VA. The DLER is assigned to one or more vessels in the LPD 17, LSD 41/49, or LHD 8/LHA 6 ship classes, and assists the ship's crew in documenting and scheduling Diesel Engine maintenance actions, collecting engine performance data, and assisting with engine balancing. An ideal candidate will have significant prior experience with U.S. Navy shipboard diesel propulsion and power generating systems, including prior or current certification as a Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) and/or an OEM Technical Service Representative.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Coordinate diesel engine maintenance with the ship's maintenance team, regional maintenance centers.
  • Represent the ISEA at integrated project team development meetings, conferences, work package reviews, and industrial support visits.
  • Maintain life cycle maintenance plans for assigned vessels.
  • Monitor vessels life cycle maintenance, performance data, and reciprocating engine analysis testing compliance.
  • Coordinate to ensure that condition-based maintenance requirements are planned for upcoming availabilities.
  • Review and submit technical reports, work specifications, and maintenance procedures.
  • Evaluate departure from specification requests and submit to the appropriate technical authority for resolution.
  • Develop and implement maintenance policies and procedures to ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and repaired.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure that parts and materials are available when needed.
  • Provide the crew training in collecting engine performance data.
  • Assist the crew with engine balancing and grooming events.
Location

Onsite in Norfolk, VA.

Anticipated Travel

Approximately 10-20% travel anticipated.

Typical Physical Activity

Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., tight spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision).

Typical Pay Range

The anticipated pay for this position in the identified location(s) is $43.36/hour. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required

This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. A candidate without a clearance but with highly relevant experience may be considered, but still must obtain a clearance prior to hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
  • At least seven (7) years of experience as a U.S. Navy Engineman, or other relevant maritime experience in the areas of Navy diesel propulsion and power generating systems. Experience should include:
    • At least two (2) years of experience with the Diesel Maintenance Strategy (DMS) and Diesel Readiness System (DRS) programs
    • At least two (2) years of experience with one or more of the following engine lines: Colt-Pielstick PC2.5; PA6B; FMOP 38 ND 8 1/8; Caterpillar 3608. Engine line experience shall be applicable to the ship class to which the DLER is assigned (i.e. PC2.5 and FMOP 38 ND 8 1/8 engine lines for LSD 41/49 Class DLERs, Pielstick PA6B engine line for LHD 8/LHA 6 Class DLERs, etc.)
  • Current or prior certification as Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) and/or OEM Technical Service Representative.
  • Experience with:
    • Shipboard Automated Maintenance Manager (SAMM) software.
    • Diesel engine performance analysis (DEPA) data collection.
    • Reviewing and analyzing engine data to provide technical recommendations.
    • Performing engine balance/grooming events.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical school diploma or Military school certificate in a relevant discipline.
