Qualifications

  • Approximately three years of automotive or diesel repair experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Intermediate mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Experience completing mechanical repairs with moderate supervision
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Class B CDL with passenger endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within three months of hire
  • State vehicle inspection license where required
  • ASE certifications preferred
  • Ability to participate in the company's ASE testing program within one year of hire
  • Ability to obtain three ASE certifications within 12 months of hire
  • Knowledge of state DOT vehicle inspection and safety standards
  • Working knowledge of computerized diagnostic and maintenance systems
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team
  • Reliable and predictable attendance
  • Personal mechanic tool inventory sufficient to complete assigned repairs

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and advanced maintenance on buses, vans, and other fleet vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle and equipment issues with moderate supervision
  • Complete repairs involving brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drivetrains, transmission clutches, and related systems
  • Replace bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, filters, fluids, and other components
  • Inspect tires and complete tire maintenance and related repairs
  • Assist Technician III employees with preventative maintenance services, safety inspections, and annual vehicle inspections
  • Remove and replace engines, transmissions, and differential assemblies under Technician III supervision
  • Assist with road calls and emergency repairs as needed
  • Identify potentially unsafe equipment and notify management of the issue and corrective action taken
  • Review completed work before vehicles are returned to service and obtain approval when required
  • Accurately complete work orders and document repairs, parts, and supplies used
  • Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from approved suppliers
  • Safely move vehicles between parking, service, and work areas
  • Repair and maintain shop tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Clean vehicles when requested
  • Provide informal guidance or support to Technician I employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned
