Job summary

Fireman Excavating Inc. is seeking a diesel truck and equipment mechanic to perform maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on our fleet, including TMA trucks, sweepers, and construction equipment. You will conduct preventive maintenance and ensure vehicles are safe and ready for crews.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, can read wiring diagrams, use diagnostic tools, and work independently with a strong emphasis on safety.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience repairing diesel trucks and diagnosing mechanical problems.
• Working knowledge of automotive electrical, A/C, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment, read wiring diagrams, and work independently.
• Strong attention to safety and a valid driver’s license.
• Experience with medium-duty trucks, sweepers, or construction equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brakes, steering, suspension, and driveline components.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, alternators, lighting, and vehicle accessories.
• Diagnose and repair truck air-conditioning systems.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic systems, hoses, pumps, and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filters, fluids, belts, tires, and scheduled inspections.
• Identify safety issues, document repairs, and tell management when a vehicle should be taken out of service.
• Keep the shop, tools, parts, and maintenance records organized.
• Coordinate with outside repair shops when work cannot be completed in-house.
