Job summary

Beckley Machinery in Beckley, WV is seeking a Diesel Heavy Equipment Student Technician to participate in a structured apprenticeship program blending classroom training, online courses, and hands-on shop work.

You will rotate through weeks of instruction and paid internship, supervised by the Training department and Shop Supervisor, with the goal of advancing to Apprentice Technician and beyond.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must possess and maintain a current, valid state driver’s license.
• Pass drug screen and background check.
• Willingness to learn and be trained.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to communicate with team members and customers.
• Good working knowledge of computers, spreadsheets, word processing programs.
• Highly self-directed.
• Must be dependable and punctual.

Responsibilities

• Learn to read and interpret technical instruction, service and safety manuals.
• Work with mechanical, hydraulic, and electric/electronic schematics and wiring diagrams and demonstrate proficiency with test equipment.
• Maintain high academic standards and morals.
• Review and send reports in a timely manner, ensuring value for work performed.
• Respond to customer requests in a professional and timely manner.
• Keep manager informed to assist in answering customer questions.
