Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. is seeking a skilled technician to diagnose, maintain and repair heavy equipment including haul and water trucks, dozers, loaders and graders. You will also install components, perform preventive maintenance and operate supporting machinery in a 24/7 mining environment.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
• Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision-making skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine systems.
• Ability to read and use blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
• Repair and install transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters and other heavy equipment systems.
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventive maintenance on hydraulic, power train and engines.
• Prioritize repairs and make decisions to keep equipment operating.
• Maintain work orders and perform area inspections.
• Operate mobile equipment like overhead cranes, forklifts and boom trucks.
• Perform welding (carbon arc, plasma, MIG, TIG, Stick).
• Fill-in supervisor duties as required.
• Train and mentor other employees.

What You Will Do

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to: Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
• Perform the removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, breaks, differentials, pumps, motors, torque convertors, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or components.
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on machine systems such as: hydraulic, power train and engines.
• Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections.
• Operate mobile equipment such as: Overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
• Perform welding such as: Carbon arc, Plasma, Mig, Tig, and Stick.
• Perform as a Fill-in Supervisor as required.
• Train and mentor other employees.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
• HEM Diagnostic Mechanic I: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
• Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision-making skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine systems.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with others.
• Ability to read and use blueprints.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $28.00 - $38.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
