Job summary

Thompson Machinery is seeking a General Shop Mechanic for construction equipment. The role focuses on setup, repair, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and replacement installations on Caterpillar diesel-powered machines.

Work is largely independent with mentorship, reporting to a Service Shop Manager in company service shops. Essential work includes interpreting manuals, reading schematics, using test equipment, and delivering high-quality service.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of hands-on equipment/engine experience preferred.
• Diesel engine and construction equipment knowledge is expected.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret technical manuals, service instructions, and safety policies.
• Work with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics; use test equipment proficiently.
• Provide high-quality repair service, diagnose issues, and respond to customer needs safely and promptly.
• May lift 25–30 pounds on occasion.
• Be aware of hazards in the work environment and follow safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
