Job summary

Vets Hired in Newark, NJ seeks a Mechanic to repair and maintain buses and fleet vehicles under supervision to ensure safe operation.

The role covers diagnosing diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, and steering; performing repairs with tools and welding; and conducting preventive maintenance. A minimum of 3 years' mechanical experience and a valid driver's license are required, with ASE certification a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years mechanical experience, preferably with diesel engines.
• ASE certification a plus.
• Valid driver's license with potential for CDL endorsements.
• Ability to pass background screening and medical examination.
• Good driving record.
• Ability to work first or second shift with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain buses and fleet vehicles.
• Test and repair diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC, electrical, brakes, suspension.
• Inspect, replace defective parts, rebuild engines/transmissions as needed.
• Diagnose issues with diagnostic tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, filters, tires.
• Follow safety procedures and regulatory compliance.
