Job summary

Sugar Creek Charter School is seeking a skilled School Bus/Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair its diesel bus fleet and support vehicles. The role emphasizes safety, independent work, and timely readiness for daily routes.

The technician will perform preventive maintenance, handle complex repairs, and maintain thorough service records under the Transportation Director and Chief of Operations. A valid NC CDL with S/P endorsements is required within 90 days, with ASE certification

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years hands-on diesel bus/heavy equipment repair experience, or completion of a diesel/heavy-equipment program plus 1 year of related experience.
• Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical/electronic systems, and vehicle diagnostics.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to obtain NC Class B CDL with S and P endorsements within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on diesel buses and support vehicles (oil/filters, fluids, belts, hoses).
• Diagnose and repair diesel engine, transmission, drivetrain, brakes, suspension, HVAC, electrical, and emissions systems.
• Inspect and maintain safety equipment (fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, emergency equipment).
• Complete accurate maintenance and repair records for every job; submit reports promptly.
• Maintain organized shop, manage parts, and coordinate with Transportation Director for inspections and audits.
