Job summary

Mill Rock Packaging is seeking a Die Cutter Assistant in our Cutting Department to support setup, change-overs, and handling loads for die cutting.

You will perform quality checks, assist with standard maintenance, and ensure tooling is stored properly. The role requires basic computer skills and the ability to stand for long shifts while contributing to a safe, efficient production line.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Die Cutting Operator by preparing loads for die cutting.
  • Off-load die cutter and inspect every load of die cut product for errors.
  • Perform quality checks in full compliance with the quality system.
  • Set up top/bottom stripping pins and blankers.
  • Store die cutting tooling and maintain order in tooling areas.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with maintenance.

As a Die Cutter Assistant in the Cutting Department, you will be responsible to support our Operations Teams in setting up tooling, assisting in machine change-overs, and moving loads in and out of the die cutter. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other dutiesWhat’s in it for YOU?Competitive Pay: $18-20 per hourSafety-First, People-First CulturePaid Time Off (PTO): Vacation and sick time plus observed company holidays401K Employer ContributionsShort and long-term disability optionsLife InsuranceAnd more!What will you do in this role?Assist the Die Cutting Operator by preparing loads for die cutting, checking product part number and loading stock into the feeder.Off-load die cutter and inspect every load of die cut product for die cutting and printing errors.Perform quality checks in full compliance with all requirements of the quality system.Use centerline system to perform proper tooling setups.Setup top strippers, bottom stripping pins, as well as top and bottom blankers.Store die cutting tooling and maintain order in the tooling storage areas.Maintain a clean and organized work area, clean die cutters, tooling and die cutting area during idle times.Assist with routine die cutter maintenance, including thoroughly cleaning machine during scheduled maintenance times.Other duties as assigned.Possess an ability to work together as a Die Cutting Team and embrace how your job impacts the whole team. You are the person “behind the scenes” making it happen.Can accept feedback and use it to grow in your position.Adept at working with your hands on tooling and machines.Must have basic computer skills or the ability to learn basic skills.Excellent endurance to stand and move about the work area all day.What does it take to be successful in this role?Basic RequirementsAbility to read and comprehend safety and operational instructions, procedures, and policies.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions and operational procedures.Problem-solving and analysis abilities involving concrete variables in standard situations.Basic computer skills are necessary to read work instructions, record job data, and follow work schedules.Effective time management skills.Attention to detail.Mechanical and technical aptitude.Ability to work required overtime as needed.Ability to interpret product layouts and production specifications.Ability to read and interpret a tape measure and measurements with speed and accuracy.Preferred RequirementsWe value diverse experiences and perspectives—they help us innovate every day. While these qualifications are preferred, they’re not required:Paperboard folding carton industry experience preferred.Mechanical background preferred.The physical requirements and work environment:Physical DemandsStanding/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–12 hours per shift).Lifting/Carrying: Regularly lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hands and arms for machine operation and material handling.Visual/Manual Requirements: Ability to read gauges, measure materials, and perform quality checks.Environmental ConditionsTemperature: Work performed in a manufacturing environment with seasonal temperature variations.Noise Level: Exposure to moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection provided.Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves.Other Factors: Occasional exposure to dust, ink, or chemicals used in production.Schedule & Work HoursFull-time position; standard schedule is 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM Monday to Thursday, with occasional overtime as needed.The above is intended to describe the general content of and the requirements for satisfactory performance in this position.
