Job description

Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines containing several cutting heads, control surfaces, or other attachments (e.g., inkjet and mailing devices, case making & decorating equipment, folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines).

May set up automatic bindery machines with multiple functions and station capabilities (power paper cutters, power collators and gatherers, power folders, power speed binders) that can be electromechanically combined with other equipment to produce finished products such as books, catalogs, manuals, directories, or magazines.

Inspect equipment for safety issues and operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) that contain multiple process stations to produce finished books, magazines, or catalogs.

Make adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine and direct crew through all aspects of production.

Monitor quality, output, and productivity.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with different paper weights, sizes, types, and colors to identify paper conditions and adjust machines accordingly.
  • Basic mathematics skills (decimals, metric units) to understand dimensional requirements and make adjustments.
  • Ability to use standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
  • Skill in making adjustments to powered machines using hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, knives).
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions for machine operations to ensure accuracy.
  • Knowledge of operating procedures for bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding/gluing machines.
  • Working knowledge of setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations of equipment for folding, collating, and cutting printed materials.

Additional Information

The pay range for this role is $21.00 - $32.05 per hour. The actual rate may vary based on education, skills, experience, performance, shift, and location.

Shift Hours: M-Th 4AM - 2PM
