Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care in the United States seeks a dialysis patient care professional to support safe, effective hemodialysis under RN supervision. You will set up and operate dialysis machines, monitor patients, document treatments, and assist in maintaining a clean, safe environment.

The role emphasizes education on adequacy measures, patient engagement, and adherence to CQI activities to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Assist other health care members in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process.
• Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since last treatment.
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, cannulate, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
• Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; evaluate vascular access pre-treatment.
• Initiate dialysis per orders including QB and QD.
• Monitor intradialytic problems and provide prescribed interventions.
• Monitor patient response to dialysis therapy and document outcomes.
• Record vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with ID.
• Ensure safety alarms are enabled (NVL 160) and document accordingly.
• Report significant information or changes in patient condition to the registered nurse or supervisor.
• Perform machine safety checks and document any abnormal findings.
• Evaluate vascular access pressures and document interventions.
• Obtain prescribed lab tests and prepare specimens for collection.
• Prepare and organize supplies to prevent wastage.
• Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision.
