Job summary

Responsibilities

• Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment.
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
• Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight and perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment
• Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including QB and QD.
• Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and document.
• Record vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
• Discontinue dialysis treatment and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access
• Obtain hemostasis and apply dressings
• Document patient condition prior to discharge and after treatment
• Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, and UF modeling
• Ensure safety alarms are enabled, including NVL 160
• Document all relevant information in the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
• Report significant changes to RN or supervisor
• Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks and intervene as needed
• Monitor vascular access pressures and document any unusual findings
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed
• Clean spills with disinfectant and maintain a safe environment
• Prepare and organize supplies to prevent wastage
• Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
• Assist in training direct care staff on programs under nurse supervision
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies and ensure environment is clean
• Disinfect dialysis machine surfaces and equipment between treatments
• Prepare for dialysis treatment and perform pretreatment alarm testing
• Initiate SDS system
