The Biomedical Technician is responsible for overseeing the overall operational condition, maintenance, and repair of all water treatment equipment, medical equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems to ensure patient safety and staff safety in their assigned clinics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective use of supplies and staff labor hours.
- Assist with purchasing: place orders and perform weekly and monthly inventory counts.
- Familiarize with inventory control procedures (FIFO) and assist in managing excess inventory.
- Perform duties to meet patient care and operational needs.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment as recommended by manufacturers.
- Repair, calibrate, test, clean, and disinfect dialysis machines, water distribution systems, and RO units.
- Perform water quality checks, including free chlorine, total chlorine, and water hardness testing.
- Conduct safety checks on pretreatment water equipment such as carbon tanks, water softeners, RO units, UV lamps, and ultrafilters.
- Collect samples of RO water and dialysate for microbiology testing as per protocol.
- Collect water samples for AAMI analysis testing.
- Disinfect central bicarbonate systems and mixing tanks according to protocol.
- Disinfect RO systems, distribution systems, and dialysis machines per protocol.
- Operate within limitations set by company policies, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform electrical safety checks on dialysis equipment.
- Familiarize with and operate equipment manuals and manufacturer's instructions.
- Maintain preventative maintenance programs and documentation.
- Keep accurate maintenance records.
- Understand the function and safe operation of water treatment and mechanical/electrical systems.
- Address environmental issues impacting safety.
- Mix bicarbonate and acid concentrate solutions as per protocol.
- Assist in receiving, storing, and stocking supplies.
- Be familiar with emergency equipment and procedures.
- Use safety measures, including PPE, as necessary.
- Follow OSHA regulations and update MSDS as required.
- Manage contracts and contacts for emergency repairs.
- Obtain quotes from approved contractors for repairs.
- Present technical summaries in QAPI meetings.
- Collaborate with the administrator to meet clinic needs.
- Promote guest customer service standards and develop organizational relationships.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns effectively.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service, and continuing education.
- Complete technical training and instruct staff on equipment use.
- Promote teamwork and a collaborative environment.
