Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Hybrid Electrification Diagnostic Strategist Engineer at Milford Proving Ground. You will calibrate automotive systems, lead diagnostic calibrations, and work across cross-functional teams including algorithm/software and hardware engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and document requirements to calibrate an automotive system.
• Design and manage strategic interfaces within systems for component reuse and best practices.
• Coordinate requirements development with other activities.
• Provide support for root cause analysis.
• Capture and analyze empirical data efficiently.
• Design Tests to identify calibration improvement opportunities.
• Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices.
• Identify system vulnerabilities and create mitigation action plans; track corrective actions.
• Plan and execute the overall diagnostic development plan.
• Provide leadership and technical guidance for other diagnostic calibrators.
• Develop and optimize diagnostic calibrations to meet performance and timing requirements.
• Identify and procure resources for diagnostic calibration development.
• Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/dyno, or customer issues.
• Represent the diagnostic calibration team to program forums.

Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.

The Role

We are seeking motivated candidates for an Electrification Diagnostic Strategist Engineer position in GM's Global Electrification Calibration group at the Milford Proving Ground. The positions involve significant in-vehicle and lab work, along with related analytical and performance verification activities. Diagnostic Strategists engage in cross-functional teams, are expected to handle multiple projects/priorities, and frequently need to balance planned and unplanned work.
A typical week includes in-vehicle calibration & testing, lab/bench/analytical activities, and collaboration with algorithm/software and hardware engineers. Diagnostic Strategists participate in offsite development trips as well as onsite program team vehicle evaluations.

What You'll Do

• Develop and document requirements required to calibrate an automotive system.
• Design and manage key strategic interfaces within systems to enable component reuse and adherence to best practices.

• Provide leadership and technical guidance for other diagnostic calibrators as they develop and optimize diagnostic calibrations.
• Develop and optimize diagnostic calibrations to meet performance and timing requirements utilizing calibration standard work.
• Identify and procure resources needed for diagnostic calibration development.
• Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/dyno, or customer issues.
• Represent the diagnostic calibration team to various program execution and strategy forums.
• Follow all Safety Precautions and Requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or software engineering.
• 5 years of automotive controls, calibration, diagnostics and/or hardware development.
• Knowledge of and passion for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• High level of oral and written communication skills.
• Good project planning and leadership skills.
• DFSS Black Belt.
• Experience with tools commonly used in calibration: INCA, Vehicle Spy, CRETA, MDA, Matlab/Simulink.

What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical or software engineering.
• 8+ years of automotive controls, calibration, diagnostics and/or hardware development.
• 2+ years of on-board vehicle diagnostic experience (calibration, controls, and/or integration).
• Knowledge of software and/or calibration development processes.
• Current or previous role in providing technical direction to others.
• Experience with interacting with senior leaders.
• Knowledge of OBD Regulations (CARB, China6).

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
