About Duke University Hospital

This Position is Eligible for Relocation and a $10,000 Commitment Bonus

Work Schedule: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10 am to 10:30 pm

Weekend Option: Eligible for weekend option and associated premium incentives

Job Overview

Position: Sonographer

Responsibilities:

  1. Operate sonographic equipment and perform diagnostic examinations.
  2. Conduct clinical assessments and ultrasound exams, including abdominal, vascular, small parts, ob-gyn, infant head/hip/spine, and interventional procedures.
  3. Follow departmental policies and use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures based on anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information.
  4. Analyze sonograms, synthesize information, and communicate findings to radiologists.
  5. Ensure patient safety and comfort during procedures.
  6. Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
  7. Assist with ultrasound department operations, including billing, equipment maintenance, and supply management.
  8. Establish professional relationships with coworkers, referring providers, and agencies.
  9. Train ultrasound students and new personnel, and assist in teaching physicians, residents, and fellows.
  10. Coordinate patient care and report equipment issues.
  11. Participate in laboratory accreditation maintenance.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate or completion of a program eligible for registry/certification, or current registry/certification.

Experience: None required beyond education/certification; Level II requires at least two years' experience; Level III requires at least four years' experience in the specialty modality.

Licenses/Certifications: ARDMS certification within 18 months of hire; BLS certification.
