Summary
The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) - Team Leader Mammography is fully qualified as an Advanced DRT and can perform assigned tasks independently.
Qualifications
Applicants pending educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
- Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Radiography (ARRT) (R).
- Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments involving CT, MRI, or Mammography (M) duties performed independently.
- Advanced certification demonstrates the ability to operate independently, clinical competency, and successful examination completion.
- In modalities requiring advanced certification, on-the-job training may be provided to non-certified technologists under supervision.
- Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
- Physical Requirements: Refer to VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
- English Language Proficiency: Required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) - and 7407(d).
- May qualify via Grandfathering Provision if applicable to current VHA employees.
Grade Determinations: Experience
- Minimum one year of relevant experience demonstrating clinical competencies at the next lower grade level.
Assignments
- Higher-level duties must be significant in scope, complexity, and variety, performed at least 25% of the time.
- At this grade, DRTs may be appointed as Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, functioning as a lead for a group of DRTs at GS-9 level or below.
- The role involves providing a full range of general radiologic exams, broad modality knowledge, and accountability to higher management.
- Must demonstrate technical KSAs, including providing feedback, resolving complaints, monitoring work, performing complex procedures, and potential to acquire assignment-specific KSAs.
Preferred Experience: Minimum 3 years in Mammography, knowledge of equipment, QA functions, FDA and MQSA regulations.
Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, light carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, handling, standing, kneeling, bending, coordination, vision, hearing, emotional stability.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until June 12, 2026, with initial referral cut-off on June 25, 2025, and subsequent monthly intervals.

- Perform administrative duties, manage QC programs, ensure compliance with regulations, coordinate inspections, and provide specialized mammography services.
- Ensure certifications are current, monitor equipment, and deliver high-quality patient care, including patient communication and positioning.
- Utilize word processing and email software for administrative functions.
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
