Job description

Summary

The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) - Team Leader Mammography is fully qualified as an Advanced DRT and can perform assigned tasks independently.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for duties involving computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M), performed independently.
  • Education: Completion of a 24-month or equivalent full-time post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or other recognized agencies.
  • Physical Requirements: Refer to VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
  • English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • Experience: At least one year of relevant experience demonstrating clinical competencies at the next lower grade level.
Assignments

For positions above full performance level, duties must be significant in scope, complexity, and variety, performed at least 25% of the time.

DRTs at this level may be appointed as Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, functioning as a lead for a group of DRTs at GS-9 level and below, providing a broad range of radiologic imaging exams, and accountable to a higher supervisor.

Candidates must demonstrate technical KSAs and potential to acquire assignment-specific KSAs, including providing feedback, resolving employee complaints, monitoring work status, and performing complex diagnostic procedures.

Preferred experience includes a minimum of 3 years in Mammography, knowledge of equipment, radiology functions, QA, FDA and MQSA regulations.

Physical Requirements
  • Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), light carrying, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, rapid mental and muscular coordination, vision, hearing, and emotional stability.
Duties

This is an open continuous announcement until June 12, 2026, with initial referral cut-off on June 25, 2025, and subsequent monthly intervals. Applications remain active for 3 months after receipt or update.

Major duties include:

  • Performing administrative and QA duties to maintain compliance with VHA, FDA/MQSA, and ACR standards in mammography and related procedures.
  • Managing QA/QC programs, coordinating inspections, and working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality exams and patient satisfaction.
  • Providing specialized mammography services, ensuring proper setup, patient care, and technical adjustments.
  • Utilizing word processing and email software for administrative functions.
Work Schedule and Benefits
  • Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
