Job summary

Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital is seeking a PRN Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to perform ultrasound studies, educate patients, and assist with scheduling and image transmission.

The role requires graduation from an accredited sonography program and BLS certification, with a preference for one year of experience. You will work variable hours, including weekends, and follow safety and room readiness protocols.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

• Form ultrasound studies (obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retroperitoneal, small parts, pediatric, vascular).
• Consult with referring physicians regarding patient history and equipment selection.
• Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams for understanding and cooperation.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety during and after the exam.
• Assist with scheduling of patients and emergency ultrasound scheduling.
• Monitor appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations.
• Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS.
• Complete after hours transmission of images and paperwork.
• Report malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
• Ensure proper function of ultrasound equipment and notify clinical engineering of malfunctions.
• Supply exam rooms with linen and related medical supplies.
• Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents.

A PRN (as needed) caregiver in this position works variable hours. Rotate weekend call: once every 5/6 weeks. ( 3-12s – can do 4-10s if staffing allows).

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• form ultrasound studies (i.e. obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retro peritoneal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular).
• Consult with referring physicians regarding patients' medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis.
• Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
• Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam.
• Assist with scheduling of patients and schedule all emergency patients for diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
• Monitor all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations.
• Perform preliminary research on patients when preparations are not provided and determine priority of patients based on the daily schedules.
• Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS.
• Complete after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
• Immediately report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
• Process billing via RIS.
• Ensure proper function of ultrasound equipment and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions.
• Adequately supply exam rooms with linen and related medical supplies.
• Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents and in-service education of caregivers.
• Assist with orienting new caregivers to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols.
• Demonstrate ultrasound equipment for caregivers and visitors.
• Potentially rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• One year of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Physical Requirements:

• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $45.00

Maximum hourly: $45.00
