Hartford HealthCare is seeking an experienced Diagnostic Imaging Scheduler in the Cardiology Arrhythmia area. The position requires strong administrative skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and prior scheduling experience in a hospital or medical setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s Degree in healthcare related field or relevant certificates preferred.
  • Previous administrative, clerical or scheduling experience required.
  • Hospital, Medical office or medical scheduling experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology including diagnosis and CPT codes; Medicare National Coverage Determination for insurance reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate Diagnostic Imaging procedures according to department protocols.
  • Communicate with physicians, staff, patients and registration to schedule or reschedule procedures while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
  • Obtain and verify patient information including history, labs, medications and insurance for accurate scheduling and reimbursement.
  • Ensure provider orders align with requested appointment types for medical necessity and address discrepancies.
  • Provide office support and act as point person, handling questions, triage calls, arrange patient transport, and resolve registration or billing issues.

Job Summary:

Responsible for optimal workflow in scheduling and coordination of Diagnostic Imaging procedures according to department protocols. Responsible for procedural screenings, collecting, documenting and obtaining complete and accurate patient medical history necessary to ensure appropriateness and safety for all procedures. Schedules and coordinates invasive and complex patient procedures according to department protocols. Provides patient with information regarding pre-procedural preparation instructions.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicates with physician, physician office staff, patients, access management and registration to appropriately schedule and or reschedule departmental procedures according to specific modality protocols and patient care requirements, maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all Diagnostic Imaging procedures and preps to appropriately coordinate resources for multiple hospital departments and Diagnostic Imaging modalities to assure quality procedure outcomes.
  • Obtains all relevant patient information, including current lab values and medication usage, current history, as well as other pertinent medical history necessary to be able to perform certain procedures and for ensuring patient safety and to obtain accurate diagnosis. Obtains current, complete and accurate patient insurance information to ensure full reimbursement.
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of provider's order in relation to requested appointment type for compliance/medical necessity and communicates discrepancies to provider office.
  • Provides office support to meet the unit needs. Function as a point person, interacting in a courteous manner with patients, patient families, providers, nurses, administrative staff internal and external to HHC in the coordination of patient care, such as but not limited to: answering questions, triaging calls, obtaining patient transport, obtaining required equipment and supplies, patient referrals, and resolving registration and billing issues
