AABR is seeking a Day Habilitation without Walls Instructor in College Point, NY 11356. This full-time role supports people with developmental disabilities to learn new skills, build relationships, and enhance self-esteem through community-based volunteer activities.

You will transport participants, assist in personal growth, ensure safety, and coordinate community activities under a person-centered plan. Strong communication with families and staff is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Transport individuals to and from community sites and volunteer locations.

  • Schedule activities in the community aligned with the life plan and person-centered approach.
  • Communicate with residential sites and families; provide written schedules for one month.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Manager of Community Based Services and the Director of Day Services, the Day Habilitation without Walls Instructor provides the opportunity for people with Developmental Disabilities to learn new skills, build relationships and develop self-esteem through volunteerism outside the traditional setting. All-day habilitation services are person centered to support each Individual in discovering their interests while improving their communication and socialization skills. The services are designed to include a particular focus on opportunities for building successful and meaningful interactions with other members of the community.

Essential Job Functions
  • Transport Individuals to and from community sites, as well as, to volunteer job opportunity locations.
  • Assist Individuals in achieving success and satisfaction in personal growth and community-based endeavors.
  • Ensure the safety of program volunteers while at the program site, agency locations, community volunteer jobs and other hub sites.
  • Schedule activities in the community that are in conjunction with the life plan and are person centered in the community.
  • Communication with the residential sites where the Individuals live and with their families.
  • Provide written schedules for planning one month at a time.
  • Demonstrate respect for all people.
  • Participate in training, seminars, and conferences as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.
QualificationsQualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting people with autism and other developmental disabilities, is preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License is Required
  • Driver’s License is to remain in good standing.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Able to exchange information with others concisely and accurately.
