Job summary

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, SLPs, interpreters, and related service providers to ensure access and accommodations.
  • Support students' language development, academic progress, and social-emotional growth.
  • Advocate for students with hearing impairments to ensure inclusive practices and accommodations.
  • Maintain documentation, progress reports, and participate in IEP meetings.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) – Responsibilities:

Deliver specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing using appropriate communication modes such as American Sign Language (ASL), lip-reading, and written English.

Utilize assistive technology (e.g., hearing aids, FM systems, captioning, visual tools) to support communication and learning.

Develop and adapt instructional materials and curricula based on individual student needs, IEP goals, and language abilities.

Provide direct and consultative services to students across educational environments (general education, resource, or self-contained).

Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other related service providers to ensure access and accommodations.

Support students' language development, academic progress, and social-emotional growth.

Advocate for students with hearing impairments to ensure inclusive practices and appropriate accommodations.

Maintain documentation, progress reports, and participate in IEP meetings.

Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

License - Education - Certification Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Deaf Education or Special Education with DHH endorsement

Valid State Teaching License with DHH credential or endorsement

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred or required by district
