Job summary

NBCUniversal in Philadelphia seeks an experienced live television Director to direct both live and recorded broadcasts using advanced automation. You will own shows, make rapid decisions, and coordinate closely with editorial and production to craft compelling newscasts and special events.

You will ensure seamless operation in fast-paced environments, manage talent timing, and maintain high production quality across NBCUniversal and Telemundo control rooms. On-site, nights/weekends required.

Qualifications

• BA degree in Production or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be willing to work in Philadelphia, PA.
• Must join or be a member of the Directors Guild of America.
• On-site: full-time NBCUniversal position.

Responsibilities

• Direct live and recorded content using the Ross Overdrive system and Dalet newsroom.
• Owns the show and makes quick calls; finds workarounds when there are failures.
• Builds master rundown patterns for all shows.
• Collaborates with editorial and production to create and execute newscasts using automated systems.
• Codes rundowns for shows.
• Shapes creative appearance with video, audio, and graphics effects.
• Leads talent and technicians; may act as Director when needed.
• Works with editorial on the look for major events throughout the year.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Works closely with editorial team on the creative look for each production.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and directs live and recorded content utilizing the Ross Overdrive automated production control system & Dalet Newsroom Computer system
• Ownership of show. Make quick calls in different situations and find workarounds in the event of failures.
• Builds master rundown patterns for all shows.
• Works in conjunction with editorial and production personnel to create and execute newscasts and all content utilizing an automated production control system
• Code rundowns for shows.
• Shape overall creative appearance of the content using imaginative video, audio and graphics effects.
• Ability to work well and communicate effectively with others
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to perform under pressure in breaking news and deadline driven situations
• Gives direction and timing to talent and other technicians; May act as a traditional Director when applicable.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Work closely with editorial team on creative look and feel of each production including major special events throughout the year.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of live news television directing experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience operating multiple screens and software applications simultaneously in a broadcast environment.
• Proficiency with live broadcast production workflows, including technical directing, audio mixing, robotics, commercial integration, live/remote cut-ins, breaking news, video playback, and graphics insertion.
• Experience with Dalet Galaxy, Ross Xpression, Ross Cambotics, Caprica Central Server, video switchers, and audio consoles preferred.
• Ability to punch and call.
• Ability to work in both NBC and Telemundo control rooms.
• Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to perform under pressure and make critical decisions in a fast-paced live production environment.
• Collaborative team player.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours with short notice.
