Job summary

DV Trading LLC in Chicago seeks a DevOps Engineer Intern to join a small, global team responsible for firm-wide infrastructure and production deployments. The role offers high impact, high visibility work shipping to production.

You will deploy workloads on Kubernetes, work in a GitOps model with Argo CD, extend observability, triage alerts, and build dashboards from metrics. A strong foundation in Linux, networking, Python, and YAML is expected, with a focus on reliability and secure practices.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• Expected to graduate by Summer 2028.
• Hands-on Linux fundamentals (shell, processes, logs, permissions).
• Networking basics: DNS, TCP/HTTP/S, ports, Ingress concepts.
• Git workflow: branches, merge requests, meaningful commits.
• Python for automation and scripting; comfortable reading YAML for Kubernetes/CI configs.
• Interest in SRE/DevOps practices: reliability, least privilege, documentation.
• Preferred: Kubernetes, Prometheus/Grafana, CI/CD, Terraform/Ansible, or cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Preferred: contributions to homelab or open source.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and operate workloads on Kubernetes.
• Work in a GitOps model using Argo CD (or equivalent).
• Extend observability with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager.
• Triage alerts end-to-end: validate signal, document findings, and escalate with evidence.
• Build dashboards and panels from existing metrics and add recording rules when appropriate.
• Participate in platform upgrades following runbooks and change windows.
• Support migration of services from bare metal to Kubernetes under mentorship.
• Contribute to internal AI-assisted tooling with emphasis on safety and data protection.
