Job summary

The Cullerton Group is seeking a DevOps Engineer 3 to design, implement, and operate secure cloud infrastructure with a focus on AWS and EKS. You will lead containerization, CI/CD automation with GitHub Actions, and IaC using Terraform, supporting Kubernetes, networking, security, and automation.

Hybrid role, 3 days on-site in Chicago, IL or Irving, TX; 12-month engagement with potential for permanent employment and full benefits.

Job description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a DevOps Engineer 3. The work will be performed on a hybrid schedule, 3 days per week onsite, in either Chicago, IL or Irving, TX. Candidates must already be local to one of these locations. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $80/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

Job Summary

The DevOps Engineer 3 will design, implement, and operate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure with a strong focus on AWS and Amazon EKS. This role will lead containerization efforts, develop enterprise-grade GitHub Actions CI/CD automation, and manage Infrastructure as Code to support highly available and efficient production environments. The engineer will also work extensively with Kubernetes, Terraform, GitOps, cloud networking, security, and automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize complex GitHub Actions workflows for CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment.
• Design, deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade production Amazon EKS/Kubernetes environments.
• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform or AWS CDK, including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, Route53, and RDS.
• Build automation using Python and/or Bash and manage secure credentials through GitHub Secrets, AWS Secrets Manager, or HashiCorp Vault.
• Implement GitOps deployment practices using tools such as ArgoCD or Flux, while supporting Docker/ECR, Helm, Kubernetes autoscaling, networking, and DevSecOps practices.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or cloud infrastructure experience.
• 3+ years of strong hands‑on GitHub Actions experience, including writing, testing, and modularizing complex workflows.
• 5+ years of hands‑on AWS experience, particularly architecture‑focused work across major AWS services.
• 3+ years of deep Amazon EKS/Kubernetes experience, including running and troubleshooting production‑grade workloads.
• Expert proficiency with Terraform and at least one scripting language: Python or Bash.
• Degree is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), CKAD, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional certification.
• Experience with ArgoCD/Flux, Helm, Docker/ECR, Karpenter/Cluster Autoscaler, OIDC, IAM/IRSA, and Kubernetes networking.
• Experience administering enterprise‑scale GitHub Actions self‑hosted runners on Kubernetes, including Actions Runner Controller (ARC).
