Job summary

Sanderson Government & Defence is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support a cloud-native platform in a 24/7 production environment. You will design, automate and operate resilient Kubernetes environments, implement IaC, and drive cloud adoption for scalable microservices.

You will collaborate with developers, architects and product teams to deliver reliable deployments, optimize pipelines, and maintain secure, highly available systems across multi-site environments.

Qualifications

• Linux administration in RHEL/Ubuntu environments.
• Hands-on AWS cloud experience (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC).
• Kubernetes administration in EKS/RKE and container orchestration.
• Experience with Docker and Helm for packaging/app delivery.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform; configuration management with Ansible.
• Monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana; basic metrics and alerting.
• Database experience with MongoDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Version control and CI/CD with GitLab CI/CD and Git.
• Secure secret and certificate management; IAM and PKI basics.
• Experience with microservice architectures and highly available Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and support resilient cloud infrastructure across AWS and Kubernetes.
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and Puppet.
• Develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment and release.
• Modernise legacy platforms and drive cloud-native adoption.
• Manage production Kubernetes environments for scalability and resilience.
• Implement monitoring, alerting and observability with Prometheus and Grafana.
• Embed security best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Develop automation tooling using Python and Bash; collaborate with agile teams.
• Engage with developers and stakeholders in sprint planning and reviews.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations and incident response.

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to support and develop a highly available cloud-native platform operating within a 24/7 production environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, automating and supporting modern infrastructure and deployment platforms, driving cloud adoption, improving operational reliability and enabling the delivery of scalable microservice-based applications.

Working closely with developers, architects and product teams, you will help build and maintain resilient Kubernetes environments, automate delivery pipelines and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions across complex production systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and support resilient cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and Kubernetes environments
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and Puppet
• Develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, deployment and release management
• Modernise legacy platforms and drive adoption of cloud-native technologies
• Manage and optimise production Kubernetes environments, ensuring scalability, performance and resilience
• Implement monitoring, alerting and observability solutions using Prometheus and Grafana
• Embed security best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle
• Develop automation tooling using Ansible, Python and Bash
• Work closely with developers, product owners and stakeholders within Agile delivery teams
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis and continuous service improvement activities
• Provide support within a 24/7 operational environment, including participation in an on-call rota

This role would suit a hands-on DevOps Engineer with strong AWS, Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code experience who enjoys working on complex, business-critical platforms and driving automation, reliability and continuous improvement across modern cloud environments.
