Job summary

Aker Solutions ASA is seeking a DevOps Engineer for its Power & Controls division in Tranby, near Drammen/Oslo. You will operate and enhance a Linux-based, self-hosted infra, collaborating across teams to ensure stable, secure platforms and robust development environments.

You will work with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and various services like PostgreSQL/MySQL, while supporting automation and security/compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Solid experience with Linux system administration (Debian/Ubuntu).
  • Experience supporting development and R&D environments.
  • Hands-on virtualization (VMware) and infrastructure operations.
  • Good understanding of networking principles and Linux network services.
  • Scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation and tooling.
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD systems (e.g. Jenkins).
  • Experience with network administration.
  • Structured and reliable way of working, with focus on stability, quality, maintainability.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset to support project teams.
  • Strong collaboration across disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and continuously improve a self-hosted Linux infrastructure.
  • Manage lab network infrastructure; implement security strategies with IT.
  • Maintain and evolve core services like Git, GitHub, Jenkins, Redmine, simulators, tooling.
  • Maintain Apache, NFS, SSH, monitoring, and remote access solutions.
  • Ensure stable PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.
  • Manage backup and recovery solutions (Bacula, Veeam).
  • Manage software licenses and related agreements.
  • Support project teams with tooling, CI/CD workflows, and development environments.
  • Introduce new services, automation, and improved workflows.
  • Define and drive a holistic infrastructure strategy across disciplines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across infrastructure and development workflows.
  • Interface with corporate IT for cybersecurity and compliance.

We are now looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Power & Controls division at Tranby. The offices are centrally located 10 minutes from Drammen and 30 minutes from Oslo.

In this role, you will work with the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Power & Controls’ internal development and R&D infrastructure. You will support project teams by ensuring stable and secure platforms, reliable tooling, and efficient development environments across ongoing and upcoming projects.

What will you be doing?
  • Operate, maintain, and continuously improve a self‑hosted, Linux‑based infrastructure, primarily built on Debian and VMware clusters
  • Manage and maintain lab network infrastructure; develop and implement network security strategies with corporate IT
  • Manage and evolve core development and R&D services such as Git, Github, Jenkins, Redmine, simulators, and code review tools
  • Maintain and optimize network services, including Apache, NFS, SSH, monitoring, and remote access solutions
  • Ensure stable, secure, and well‑maintained database platforms (PostgreSQL and MySQL)
  • Manage and support backup and recovery solutions, including Bacula and Veeam
  • Manage software licenses and related agreements
  • Support project teams with tooling, CI/CD workflows, and development environments
  • Introduce new services, automation, and improved ways of working to support upcoming projects
  • Define and drive a holistic infrastructure strategy across disciplines
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across infrastructure, services, and development workflows
  • Act as the main technical interface towards corporate IT, ensuring alignment with cybersecurity requirements and infrastructure compliance
We think you should have:
  • Solid experience with Linux system administration (preferably Debian/Ubuntu or similar)
  • Experience supporting development and R&D environments
  • Hands‑on experience with virtualization (VMware or equivalent) and infrastructure operations
  • Good understanding of networking principles and common Linux network services (e.g. Apache, NFS, SSH)
  • Scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar) used for automation and tooling
  • Experience working with development infrastructure, such as Git and CI/CD systems (e.g. Jenkins or similar tools)
  • Experience with network administration
  • A structured and reliable way of working, with strong focus on stability, quality, and maintainability
  • A proactive, solution‑oriented mindset, with motivation to support project teams
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across disciplines and stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance, in line with project and customer requirements
