Job summary

Caswell Developmental Center in North Carolina is seeking a Health Care Technician II (S) to provide direct support for individuals with developmental disabilities. The position is based at West End Villas, 103 Byrum, with a 2:15 PM - 10:45 PM shift and weekend rotation.

You will supervise staff, assist with personal care, transport individuals to activities and appointments, and maintain documentation to support each person’s habilitation plan.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with one year of related work experience.
  • Nurse Aide I/II certification may be required.
  • Caswell Center inservice training requirements may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure physical and emotional well-being and participation in habilitation plans.

Description of Work

Provide direction, support, and assistance to staff during the shift through assignments to ensure shift operations meet individual’s needs.

Responsibilities

Assuring the physical and emotional well-being of individuals and active participation in the implementation and maintenance of priority training objectives, services, and supports comprising each individual’s habilitation plan.

Duties

Training and support with personal care, domestic skills, leisure-social skills, self-management, ensuring the supervision and safety of individuals, assistance in program and/or training areas, transportation of individuals to scheduled activities, classes, medical and dental appointments, shopping with and for individuals, community integration, assistance in providing emergency treatment for seizures or accidents, housekeeping chores as necessary, and record keeping and documentation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Management Preferences

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Desire to work with persons with developmental disabilities, basic knowledge of health care techniques and safety, ability to make observations and make written and oral reports, ability to do simple math computations and follow oral and written instructions. Good general health including the ability to physically lift individuals as necessary. Ability to supervise staff and make assignments necessary for shift operations and meeting individual’s needs. Ability to perform related timekeeping functions. Management Preferences: Successful completion of Caswell Center's inservice training requirements, two years of experience as DT I or three years of experience with people who have developmental disabilities.

Salary

Salary Range: $32,444.00 – $48,665.00 A Sign-on bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval. This is an anticipated vacancy.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate. An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if: The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date) The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency. DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees. All Sign-on Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis (6-9 times daily) and be able to stoop, bend, walk, run short distances (50 yards) and climb stairs without limitations of a permanent nature to provide adequate supervision of the assigned population in the home. This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

West End Villas/103 Byrum

Work Hours

2:15 PM - 10:45 PM, including every other weekend with days off as defined by a 40 hour work schedule. Scheduled working hours may vary.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
