Job summary

AKIN is seeking a Development Specialist for the Early Supports for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) team. The role delivers sensory processing and play-based therapy to children ages birth to 3 in homes and community settings, collaborating with partners to meet families' needs with excellence.

Responsibilities include direct instruction, IFSP collaboration, documentation, and parental engagement, while embracing inclusive, antiracist practices and accessibility principles across services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
  • Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement or coursework in Family Systems, Evaluation/Assessment, Intervention/Curriculum
  • Experience using electronic medical records (e.g., Credible)
  • Experience working in diverse cultural settings with equitable, supportive services
  • Current CPR, First Aid/AED, HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens certifications
  • Valid driver's license with clean record
  • Experience may be substituted: 4+ years in early intervention in lieu of specified coursework

  • Collaborate with ESIT team, FRCs, and program staff on IFSPs and case reviews.
  • Maintain case records and ensure compliance with Part C and policies.
  • Communicate with medical providers, school districts, and outside resources.
  • Engage and empower parents in sessions, offering training and support.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Specialist position on our Early Supports for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) Team will have the opportunity to help us develop and scale a best-in-class Early Intervention program for ages 0-3. This position will provide sensory processing and play-based therapy to children in natural environments, including their homes, classrooms, and other community locations. This position will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure the needs of young children and their families are being met with excellence.

This position has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides individualized group special instruction to develop cognitive, social, communication, gross and fine motor skills for children ages birth to 3
  • Collaborates with the Early Intervention team, Family Resource Coordinators (FRCs), and Akin program staff on interdisciplinary IFSPs, goal setting, and case review
  • Maintains documentation of case records and ensure compliance with Part C and other policies
  • Communicates with medical providers, school districts, and other outside resources as needed
  • Engages and empowers parents in all individual and group sessions, providing training and support that allow them to meet the needs of their children
  • Other duties as assigned

HYBRID WORK ARRANGEMENTS:

Hybrid work is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace but cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Hybrid work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
  • WashingtonState Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement.
    • OR, have taken the following courses:
      • Child Development
      • Evaluation/Assessment
      • Family Systems*
      • Intervention/Curriculum*
  • Experienceusing all aspectsof an electronic medical recordssystem (e.g., Credible)
  • Experienceand demonstrated abilityto successfully work within a diverse cultural setting and provide culturally dynamic, equitable, and supportive services
  • Current certifications in Pediatric/Adult CPR, First Aid/AED,HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens
  • A valid driver's license and a favorable driving record, with no more than three violations within the past three years
  • *Experience may be substituted for coursework: At least 4 years of experience in providing early intervention may be used in lieu of completing Family Systems and Intervention/Curriculum
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish highly desired
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive pay, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position.

The target starting pay for this position is $34.22 - $41.06 per hour, typically within the first half of this range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.
