Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley's Nanofabrication Laboratory (NanoLab) seeks a Development Technician to support and repair semiconductor processing equipment and assist faculty laboratories. You will monitor utilities and maintain clean-room environments to enable advanced research.

Under supervision, you will install, repair, and document equipment, design and fabricate components, maintain safety procedures, train staff, and ensure operations meet strict standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with five years of technical or craft experience.
  • Ability to MIG & TIG weld.
  • Operate machine shop equipment such as milling machines, lathes, saws, hand tools, etc.
  • Design and make working drawings using CAD software.
  • Operate wood working equipment such as table saws, miter saws, router.
  • Work from drawings, blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions.
  • OSHA regulations familiarity.
  • Design, documentation, drawing and layout skills.
  • MSDS chemicals and gases knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment and Facilities Support: install, repair and maintain environment to accommodate semiconductor processing equipment and related systems.
  • Design and Fabrication: assist in preparing working drawings and fabricate components per specifications.
  • Documentation: use Mercury database to mark equipment status, maintain manuals and records.
  • Safety: follow SOPs and mentor staff to ensure safe lab practices.
