Job summary

Caltech's Quantum Photonics Group is seeking a Laboratory Engineer to manage day-to-day cleanroom operations on the Caltech campus. You will maintain peak performance of nanofabrication equipment, perform maintenance, document solutions, and train lab users to achieve peak operation.

Responsibilities include protocol development, preventative maintenance, data record keeping, and safety training, with collaboration across lab staff, the PI, and vendors to uphold world-class standards.

Qualifications

  • High craftsmanship with mechanical design and materials knowledge.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain organized data and document solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Follow protocols to run equipment and ensure peak performance daily.
  • Develop new protocols and set standards for evaluation.
  • Maintain data records to verify performance and indicate maintenance needs.
  • Administer preventative maintenance plans and perform instrument alignments.
  • Perform routine repairs and diagnose problems using schematics and vendor input.
  • Lead equipment troubleshooting documentation and SOPs update.
  • Train lab users for safe and peak operation.
  • Communicate progress to staff and PI via reports and meetings.
