Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit or Project Management or equivalent.
  • Experience in donor relations, customer service, or nonprofit operations.
  • Familiarity with CRM or fundraising database platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in data entry and financial processing.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with willingness to flex across functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling donor and financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Donor Services: Respond to donor inquiries via phone, email, and CRM; process refunds and acknowledgments; ensure donor experience across channels.
  • Gift Processing: Assist with gift entry, batching, and reconciliation; record donations in CRM/fundraising database; troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Vendor & Operations Support: Provide backup support for vendor operations; assist with administrative tasks; flex across functions during high-volume periods.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Services Assistant is a cross-functional support role within the Development Operations & Donor Experience team. This position provides flexible, hands-on assistance across gift processing, donor services, and vendor operations — stepping in during periods of high volume, seasonal peaks, or staff absences to keep critical donor-facing and back-office functions running smoothly.

This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety in their day-to-day work, and takes pride in accuracy and donor care.

Position is expected to be in Project HOPE's Washington, DC office min. 2-3 days/week (or more depending on key projects).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Services

  • Respond to donor inquiries via phone, email, and CRM alongside the Donor Services Associate
  • Process refunds, adjustments, and donor acknowledgment tasks
  • Help ensure a positive, timely donor experience across all communication channels
  • Prepare routine correspondence and responses to constituents
  • Assist with suppression of prospects and donors from communications as requested
  • Process sustainer cancellations

Gift Processing

  • Assist with gift entry, batching, and reconciliation during peak periods or staff absences
  • Support accurate and timely recording of donations in the CRM/fundraising database
  • Help troubleshoot and resolve gift-processing discrepancies

Vendor & Operations Support

  • Provide backup support for vendor-related operations as needed
  • Assist with administrative tasks that support the broader Development Operations team
  • Flex across functions to cover gaps during high-volume periods or staff absences

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/S in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit or Project Management, or relevant field/experience.
  • Experience in donor relations, customer service, or nonprofit operations
  • Familiarity with CRM or fundraising database platforms
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in data entry and financial processing
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with a willingness to flex across functions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling donor and financial information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience partnering with and communicating with multiple vendors and/or teams.
  • Experience with fundraising CRMs such as Fundraise Up and Raisers Edge NXT
  • Experience with project management tools like Asana and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Experience with MS Excel and Word
  • Experience with Zendesk

Physical demands:

  • The employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate in verbal and written form and ability to travel in the U.S. 2-4 times per year.

  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.

Salary range starts at $50,000 - $53,000 per year. Compensation for the role is dependent on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
