Job summary

You will manage large-scale permits, coordinate internal reviews, and assist with planning studies while upholding Borough values and delivering timely, accurate information to the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education or specialized training can substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the occupational field; understanding major duties and ability to resolve problems.
• Strong research and analysis skills; ability to interpret Borough codes and state/federal regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex ideas and present in public forums.
• Must have or obtain a valid Alaska driver's license within six months; 19+ years with one year driving experience.
• AICP Certification is desirable; CFMs may be required for specific roles.

Responsibilities

• Processes large-scale development permits.
• Prepares and presents technical reports at public hearings; answers questions from the public.
• Accepts, processes, and adjudicates Borough permits, variances, and related applications.
• Coordinates internal reviews for proposed land uses, leases, projects, and facilities.
• Interprets and applies federal, state and Borough codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Maintains files and prepares reports, ordinances, procedures, and position statements.
• Prepares legislation for Planning Commission and Assembly; facilitates public meetings.
• Responds to public inquiries; provides interviews to the news media as requested.
• Advises staff and committees; completes special projects and planning studies.
• Develops and maintains division web pages; manages external contracts and project scope.
