Job description

Middlesex Health seeks a driven, self-starting Development Officer to build on our historic fundraising successes, shape the future of our fast-paced development operation, and advance our mission to meet the health care needs of the greater Middlesex County community.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Development, you will be a standout leader within a tight-knit team, helping to increase giving across multiple channels to raise critical philanthropic funds for capital needs, technology innovation, and patient care programs. In this role, you will take primary responsibility for identifying, cultivating, and closing leadership and planned gifts from individuals, as well as securing critical corporate and foundation support for our signature events and vital service lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Cultivation & Solicitation: Identify, cultivate, and secure gifts from individuals, foundation grants, government funding opportunities, and high-value corporate sponsorships for signature events, including our golf tournaments.
  • Event Management & Execution: Lead the comprehensive planning and hands‑on execution of signature fundraising events, most notably our annual golf tournaments. Manage the full spectrum of event operations, from securing high-level sponsorships to ensuring seamless day‑of logistics.
  • Targeted Proposal Development: Connect health system priorities—such as cancer care, hospice, youth and families, and women's health—with donor interests by crafting compelling, customized proposals.
  • Comprehensive Stewardship: Design, plan, and implement stewardship programs and events that nurture long‑term, meaningful relationships with mid‑level donors, leadership prospects, and institutional partners.
  • Program & Network Expansion: Champion the growth of our planned giving program through dedicated stewardship, while actively recruiting and cultivating volunteers to build a robust network of community support.
  • Collaborative Planning: Serve as a core member of the fundraising team, providing crucial input in the creation and execution of the annual fundraising plan.
What You Bring to the Team:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of direct fundraising experience or equivalent sales management experience. This role is ideal for a driven professional who has built foundational development skills and is ready for the next stage of their career: directly soliciting individual and institutional gifts.
  • An interest in enhancing the health and well‑being of the greater Middlesex County community through philanthropy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working in health care fundraising.
  • Proficiency using Raiser's Edge NXT software.
  • Experience writing compelling proposals and case statements.
  • Demonstrated event management experience.
Additional Information:

To fully support our mission and signature events, this role requires some evening and weekend availability throughout the year. As a member of our team, you will be expected to champion our core values: Compassion, Pursuing Excellence, Cooperation and Collaboration, Upholding Honesty, and Supporting Innovation.
