Purpose

The Development Manager is responsible for supporting and executing key fundraising strategies to advance the mission of YWCA Metro St. Louis across all program areas, including early childhood education, housing, domestic and sexual violence services, racial justice initiatives, and workforce development. This role manages specific fundraising activities, donor relationships, and development operations to help achieve revenue goals and strengthen community engagement.

Description

The Development Manager plays a critical role in implementing fundraising initiatives, managing donor engagement activities, and supporting revenue generation across multiple funding streams. This position works closely with the Senior Development Director and development team to execute campaigns, support grant efforts, manage donor portfolios, and coordinate events.

The Development Manager serves as a liaison between the organization and its donors, partners, and community stakeholders. This role requires the ability to balance relationship management with strong operational and project coordination skills. The position also ensures alignment with organizational priorities, compliance requirements, and best practices in nonprofit fundraising.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of an organization-wide fundraising strategy across all program areas.
  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Assist in identifying and researching prospective individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Coordinate and support grant development efforts, including assisting with proposal preparation, tracking deadlines, and compiling required documentation.
  • Partner with program staff to gather impact data and program outcomes for donor communications and reports in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and special events, including logistics, donor outreach, and follow-up.
  • Develop and support donor communications such as appeals, acknowledgments, newsletters, and impact reports in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  • Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM system, tracking interactions, contributions, and engagement activities.
  • Monitor fundraising progress and assist in preparing reports and analysis for leadership and board stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure proper recording and reconciliation of gifts and adherence to donor restrictions.
  • Lead coordination of volunteer engagement efforts tied to fundraising activities, ensuring a strong connection between community involvement and donor development.
  • Support corporate and community partnership activities to enhance engagement and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with donor intent, grant requirements, and ethical fundraising standards.
  • Represent YWCA Metro St. Louis professionally in interactions with donors, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for fundraising events and activities.
  • Regular local travel for donor meetings and community engagement.
  • Development marketing materials are developed in conjunction with Marketing for all the Development roles.
Requirements
Formal Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field required.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting fundraising campaigns, donor relations, or grant development.
  • Experience working in a multi-program nonprofit or human services environment preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices, donor engagement strategies, and basic grant processes.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and community partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate program impact into compelling messaging.
  • Proficiency with donor databases/CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to track and interpret fundraising data.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to the mission of YWCA and principles of racial equity and inclusion.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Ability to lift materials related to events (up to 15–20 pounds).
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and working at a computer or attending events.
