Responsibilities

  • Solicit donations from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations through meetings, presentations, calls, and events.

  • Record meeting notes and donor information in the CRM; maintain donor communications.
  • Maintain an active, growing list of contacts and provide weekly activity reports to supervisor.
  • Plan and execute donor recognition events and sponsor relations.
  • Collaborate with staff to set annual fundraising targets and meet objectives.
  • Participate in capital campaigns and organize fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Represent MMC to external stakeholders and deliver community presentations as needed.

Schedule: Monday through Friday with the ability to work evenings and weekends

Salary Range: $69,992 - $87,490

Salary ranges listed above represent good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on several factors including but not limited to, the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Benefits: Medical at $60.00 a month for employees, dependent coverage available at pro-rated additional cost (Kaiser, Anthem Blue Cross and Community Health Care options), 100% employer paid dental & vision, 11 paid holidays, PTO accrual up to 11 paid days annually, California Paid Sick leave, additional sick leave accrual and 403b with company match

Reports to: Director of Philanthropy and Communication

Position Summary

The Development Officer is responsible for soliciting donations and expanding fundraising capacity of the organization. This role prepares comprehensive proposals, maintains detailed donor records in CRM systems, and manages an active pipeline of ~500 contacts and prospects with regular reporting to their supervisor. Collaborating closely with staff, this position sets and works toward annual individual fundraising targets~1 million and/or aligned with organizational goals. The Development Officer strategically builds and nurtures community partnerships. This role supports cross‑departmental collaboration, upholds confidentiality and ethical standards, and communicates regularly with management on program outcomes and donor engagement. This position champions a culture of integrity, empowerment, dedication, and collaboration in alignment with MMC’s mission and strategic objectives.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities include the following
  • Solicit donations and increase the capacity from existing, lapsed, and new individual donors, organizations, corporations, and local foundations to support the programs and services of the organization through in‑person meetings, presentations, phone calls, electronic media, and other methods.
  • Prepare comprehensive proposals for gift opportunities in response to inquiries and cultivation.
  • Record all meeting notes, donor‑relayed information, correspondence, and phone conversations within the donor CRM and when necessary, the organizations client software.
  • Maintain an active and continually growing list of contacts and prospects, providing a weekly report of prospective contacts, visits, and donor activities for review by supervisor.
  • Plan and execute donor and sponsor recognition and celebratory events.
  • The Director, in collaboration with each staff member, will establish annual individual fundraising targets to align with and drive the achievement of fundraising objectives, ensuring goals are met or exceeded each year.
  • Execute assigned projects and initiatives in the planning and implementation of capital campaigns.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of fundraising events including sponsorship acquisition (both new and current donors), event donations, sponsorship/guest coordination, etc. Attendance in the weeks leading up to, and at all major fundraising events, is essential to this job function.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of annual cause marketing campaign within the business community.
  • Adhere and comply with the confidentiality of donor information per the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethics.
  • Work in collaboration with all other departments and programs to understand challenges and positive outcomes from client services and the organization, to share appropriately with existing and potential donors.
  • Strategically develop, nurture, and expand community partnerships that include but are not limited to local organizations, government agencies, and community partners to create a network that enhances the organization’s brand and presence in the community.
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on current revenue, understanding of the organization’s annual budget, donor information, and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the organization.
  • Act as a representative to external stakeholders, acting as the spokesperson to the community as needed, delivering community presentations and conducting media interviews as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the organization in order to model and support effective cross‑departmental partnerships, trauma‑informed practices, resiliency‑building, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Adheres to all organizations' and programs' policies and procedures.
  • Communicates regularly and provides written program updates to the manager about program activities, outcomes, and donor engagement.
  • Attend department and agency‑wide meetings as required.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in fund‑development, or related field.
  • Experience in direct asking for and closing of donations and building/maintaining long‑term relationships with donors and organizations.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and Tests
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance on personal auto.
  • Must be insurable at all times at standard rate by MMC insurance carrier.
  • Must successfully pass a drug, background and Tuberculosis test.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely both verbally and in writing in English. Bilingual in Hmong, Spanish, or Punjabi is a plus.
  • Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation and relationships with others.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships through strong interpersonal skills.
