Job summary

Lanakila Pacific is seeking a Development Manager to advance fundraising, donor engagement, and community relations in Hawaii. This role, supervising the Community Engagement Specialist, focuses on building relationships with donors, sponsors, businesses, and community organizations to sustain the organization’s mission.

  • Manage donor acknowledgments, tax receipts, and related communications.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Development Manager advances Lanakila Pacific's fundraising, donor engagement, and community relations efforts to support the organization's long-term growth and sustainability. This position serves as a key ambassador for Lanakila Pacific by building relationships with donors, sponsors, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders. The Development Manager develops and cultivates funding opportunities, supports fundraising campaigns and special events, and collaborates across departments to strengthen community awareness and support for Lanakila Pacific's mission. This position directly supervises the Community Engagement Specialist.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education requirements.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive professional experience in fundraising, fund development, sponsorship sales, business development, marketing, event planning, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success securing sponsorships, partnerships, volunteers, memberships, sales, or other forms of external support.
  • Strong strategic planning, relationship-building, project management, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver\'s license, clean driver\'s abstract, and access to an insured vehicle.
  • TB clearance, background check, pre-employment drug testing, CPS/APS check, and other required pre-employment clearances.
Preferred
  • CFRE certification or related professional development in fundraising, nonprofit management, or community engagement.
  • Established relationships within Hawaii's business, nonprofit, or community sectors.
  • Experience using CRM databases, online giving platforms, and fundraising reporting tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fund Development & Donor Relations
  • Assist in developing and implementing annual fundraising and development plans.
  • Identify, solicit, secure, and steward sponsorships, donations, and community partnerships.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for donor inquiries and donor relationship management.
  • Manage donor acknowledgements, tax receipts, thank-you communications, and related correspondence.
  • Administer donor management and online giving systems, including reporting and donor support.
  • Support grant development efforts, research prospective funding opportunities, and coordinate required reporting.
  • Track fundraising activities and prepare reports and analyses for organizational leadership.
Community Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with businesses, community organizations, volunteers, government agencies, and community partners.
  • Cultivate volunteer engagement opportunities and community partnerships that increase awareness and support of Lanakila Pacific.
  • Oversee community engagement activities, volunteer recruitment efforts, tours, outreach initiatives, and community events.
  • Represent Lanakila Pacific at networking functions, community meetings, volunteer activities, and public events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to plan and execute fundraising events and community initiatives.
  • Manage sponsorship solicitation, fulfillment, stewardship, recognition, and event-related donor engagement activities.Support fundraising campaigns and organizational initiatives that advance Lanakila Pacific's mission.
  • Supervise, coach, and support the Community Engagement Specialist.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Development to align fundraising activities with organizational goals and branding strategies.
  • Partner with departments across the organization to identify opportunities to share program impact and engage supporters.
  • Participate in budget planning and ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS & SCHEDULE:
  • Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:0 p.m.; occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays required to support fundraising events and operational needs.
  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to meetings, events, community functions, and program locations.
  • Fast-paced work environment requiring strong organization, multitasking, and relationship management skills.
