We are currently seeking a passionate, organized, and relationship-driven Development Manager to help advance our mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. This position plays a key role in supporting fundraising strategies, donor engagement, grants management, events, and development operations. The Development Manager will help strengthen donor relationships, build strategic partnerships, and secure the resources needed to expand our impact for students, families, schools, and communities across Ohio.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

The Development Manager will support the execution of CIS of Ohio’s annual development and fundraising strategy while helping advance the organization’s mission and financial sustainability. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting fundraising efforts across individual, corporate, foundation, community, and grant funding streams.
  • Managing and maintaining a portfolio of donors and prospects through cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and ongoing engagement.
  • Conducting donor and prospect research to identify new funding opportunities and strengthen the donor pipeline.
  • Coordinating donor outreach and engagement opportunities, including meetings, tours, events, acknowledgements, personalized communications, and stewardship activities.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with community, civic, philanthropic, and business leaders.
  • Managing the full grants lifecycle, including research, proposal development, submissions, reporting, and compliance tracking.
  • Maintaining the grants calendar and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Collaborating with program and finance teams to align grant narratives, outcomes, and budgets with funder requirements.
  • Planning and executing fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinating event logistics, including sponsorships, communications, volunteers, vendors, registration, and follow‑up.
  • Maintaining donor database integrity, gift tracking, reporting, and fundraising analytics.
  • Assisting with donor communications, appeals, newsletters, marketing materials, social media, and digital fundraising campaigns.
  • Preparing reports, dashboards, and development materials for leadership and Board engagement.
  • Partnering cross‑functionally with program, operations, finance, and leadership teams to support organizational goals.
Experience and Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will bring nonprofit development experience, strong project management skills, and a commitment to mission‑driven work. Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of three years of nonprofit fundraising, advancement, or development experience preferred.
  • Experience managing grants, donor relationships, fundraising campaigns, and events.
  • Experience supporting individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation funding, grants, and fundraising events.
  • Proficiency with CRM and donor database systems such as Salesforce, Bloomerang, Raiser’s Edge, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strategic, detail‑oriented, and data‑informed approach to fundraising and operations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Commitment to educational equity, diversity, inclusion, and student success.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Prior experience in nonprofit fundraising, advancement, donor engagement, or development operations.
  • Familiarity with donor stewardship, prospect research, gift tracking, and fundraising analytics.
  • Experience preparing reports, dashboards, donor communications, appeals, newsletters, or development materials.
  • Experience working in a mission‑driven, youth‑serving, education‑based, or community‑focused organization.
